How and why did you get into this sport?
After years of struggling with my mental health after leaving the military, in 2017 I hit my lowest point and was moments from ending it all.
At the very last second i had a vision of my kids saying they needed me which stopped me. I signed up for Ironman UK and instantly got addicted to endurance training it literally saved my life.
What has been your biggest recent battle with training?
Finding motivation to get onto the bike.
I am really enjoying running and strength training currently, and know I should spend more time cycling as it’s my weakest discipline, but I have been opting for the things I enjoy most instead.
The thought of sitting on a turbo trainer has not excited me as much as getting out in the fresh air after a long day at work I guess, and sometimes nothing clears the head like a run.
If we were to open your diary from the last week, what would it say?
I have an ultra marathon (50k) next week but that’s more a training day than a trained for event, the next big event is Manchester Marathon where I’ll be going for sub 3 attempt number 3.
Getting closer each time!
Then challenge Salou middle Distance triathlon, followed by the an Ironman in July which is the A race of the year and my first Ironman in 8 years. Full distance that is.
Considering how busy work has been this last week, and the amount of travel involved, training has been consistent and running volume has increased to plan.
A good mix of strength training and balancing family time so actually a really positive week 🙌
