One word description: Focused.

Only 19 years of age but epitomising the common; "age is just a number".

As someone who recently changed disciplines from Boxing to Endurance, Maximus shares the highs and lows of sport, he speaks with experience of seasoned veteran as opposed to a man growing and developing in his youth.

S2 Ep2 - Alex Price
One word description: Calm.

This man started running "lamppost-to-lamppost" and he stands here today taking on Ultramarathons.

It's an incredible journey and one that requires masses of grit, and discipline, yet he is able to describe with incredible serenity and certainty. Clarity in what he has experienced and learnt along the way, not just in running, but all areas of life.

Listen in to see what it took to complete Ultramarathons, and just how bif of a role running has played in Alex's life.
S2 Ep3 - Jayson Langley
One word description: Driven.

The man had a goal. He achieved it. He had another. He achieved it. He had anoth...
You have to have respect for anyone who has served, I know I do, and Jayson has taken that discipline and mindset undoubtedly required of anyone in the armed forces, and applied it to his sporting endavours.
Reaching the heights of representing his country in his age group, he continues to chase improvemnt in the world of Ironman, now bringing a family led approach with his kids joining him for sessions.

Listen in for some deep, raw truths and insights from a family man dedicated to his goals.

S2 Ep4 - Jack Rampton
One word description: Relentless.

Someone who I am fortunate enough to consider a friend, has made it to the top of the game in Rugby League, and even had the honour of representing his country, Jamaica.
But this was not without hours, days, weeks, and years of work as an Amateur Athlete to get there.

Listen in to hear Jack's relentless journey up through the levels of Rugby, what it took to get to where he is now, and differences of an Amateur Athlete and full-time professional.
S2 Ep5 - Rose Landreth
One word description: Reflective.

What happens when you achieve something huge…and it doesn’t feel how you expected?
In this episode, Rose Landreth reflects on completing her first Ironman and why crossing the finish line didn’t bring the emotional high so many athletes talk about.
Beyond this we discuss the reality of endurance sport, diving into the the mental discipline required, the sacrifice to work and relationships, the cost of commitment, and how identity can become so closely tied to training.

S2 Ep6 - Kyle Matthews
One word description: Unstoppable.

Kyle talks honestly about what it took to keep going when the novelty wears off, injuries hit and motivation was low. Being homeless for a period of time, Kyle has faced his fair share of battles in life and took on this challenge on a personal mission but also in support of Family Action who help parents, children and families of all types.
Mr Matthews speaks with great humility and assurance of what he has achieved, but also with confidence and optimism of what is now to come.
Something tells me this is just the beginning for him. So whilst this may sound like a 'nutty' challenge, I assure you there is plenty to Kyle's story that many of us can relate; specifically the times he has dedicated to meal deal choices.
S2 Ep7 - Katie Williams
One word description: Present.

Running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours sounds simple on paper but sleep deprivation, fuelling mistakes, and mental fatigue make it considerably harder in practise.
In this episode of The Amateur Athlete Diaries, I’m joined by Katie Williams to unpack her experience taking on the 4x4x48 challenge, a brutal endurance test that became less about running fitness and more about mindset, recovery, and self-belief.

S2 Ep8 - Tom Chandler
One word description: Driven.

In this episode, I sit down with Scottish decathlete, Tom Chandler, who is fresh off winning the South of England Combined Events. We talk about injuries, identity, pressure, and what it means to persist when sport stops becomes less one dimensional.
After three knee operations, Tom opens up about how injury forced him to confront who he was beyond being an athlete; and why that process ultimately made him stronger, more grounded, and more patient in chasing big goals.
