Half Marathon and Hyrox

How and why did you get into this sport?

I’ve been running on and off all my life, but one day I ran and I got hooked! I’ve got the kind of personality that wants to try everything and anything, so hyrox was the next fixation where training was always as intense as I like it, and there’s so many components

What has been your biggest recent battle with training?

I’d say having an auto immune disease definitely takes its toll, it’s managed day to day but on the odd occasion I fall unwell, it knocks me for weeks and the symptoms are extensive. If I had to pinpoint one moment over the last few months then it would be the recovery journey after completing the Everest Base Camp trek. I became so unwell on that trip, unintentionally lost a load of weight and battled a chest infection as well as altitude sickness, which took a good 6 weeks to clear from my system! It made training a task and a half!!

If we were to open your diary from the last week, what would it say?

I’ve spent a lot of time recently, learning to not feel guilty for resting. It’s something I constantly struggle with and I love being busy, but I’ve definitely come to terms with how important PROPER recovery is, so I’m trying to tap into that as much as possible nowadays. My recent 10k PB race reminded me that we’re allowed to celebrate the wins for as long as we feel, and to reflect on how far we come each and every week!
